- Seagate Technology ATAPI/ATA Device Driver (SGATWIN95) for Windows 95

- SGATWIN95 is to replace Windows 95 "standard IDE/ESDI hard disk controller".
- "standard IDE/ESDI hard disk controller" is a device driver installed when
- Windows 95 detects ATAPI CD-ROM and ATA hard disc drive on ISA or VESA local
- bus system.

- Windows 95 "standard IDE/ESDI hard disk controller" is operated in protected
- mode but it doesn't utilize the features of new ATA hard disc drive.
- SGATWIN95 tries to make full use of all the features of new ATA hard disc drive
- as much as possible while it is running in protected mode.

- The features are:
-
- - read/write multiple
- - logical block addressing
- - 32 bit data transfer from VESA/IDE to uP
- - programming known VESA/IDE chips (DTC, ADI2, ADI3, CMD)

- If you have not installed SGATWIN95, you may have "standard IDE/ESDI hard disk
- controller".

- 1. Find and Remove "standard IDE/ESDI hard disk controller"

- 1) Select My computer icon.
- 2) Select "Control Panel".
- 3) Select "System".
- 4) Select "Device Manager".
- 5) Select "Hard Disk Conrollers"
- 6) You will find one or more drivers. Remove the driver(s) and
- leave "system". You don't have to shut down the system.

- 2. Install Seagate ATAPI/ATA Device Driver

- 1) Select "Add New Hardware" from "Control Panel" and "Next>"
- 2) Click "No" button at "Do you want Windows to search for your new
- hardware?" and "Next".
- 3) Select "Hard Disk Controllers".
- 4) Select "Have Disk".
- 5) Type the directory of the driver (SGATWIN95) if the driver(SGATWIN95) is not
- in drive A and click "OK".
- 6) You will see "Seagate ATAPI/ATA Device Driver Version xxxxxx" and
- click "Next>".
- 7) You will see a table for resource and setting which will show
- input/output range and interrrupt number, etc. and click "Next>".
- 8) Files will be copied to drive A or the directory of the driver.
- 9) If there is no conflict, you can select "Finish".
- 10) Shut down the system.

- 3. Check Installed Driver

- 1) Select "Hard Disk Controller" from "Device Manager".
- 2) If "Seagate ATAPI/ATA Device Driver Version xxxxxx" has "!" mark,
- the configuration of the driver may need to be changed.
- 3) Click "Resource" and change "Basic Configuration 1" to "Basic
- Configuration 0" or the other way.
- Basic Configuration 0 is for the primary port and
- Basic Configuration 1 is for the secondary port.

- 4. Install SGAT95 as secondary port driver

- You can install Seagate ATAPI/ATA Device Driver one more time to
- support the drives attached to the secondary port.
- The device driver for the primary can be different device driver.
- You can have "standard IDE/ESDI hard disk controller" at the primary
- port and SGAT95 at the secondary port. Follow the same step as 2 and 3.
